This is probably an inappropriate picture to post, but I thought a little dose of my reality right now would put some things in perspective. Amidst these past adventuresome months that we've been in Tegus, one thing has remained a part of my daily life that I've yet to mention: my itchy finger. It's a dermatitis problem that accompanies my Celiac disease, but it's been tamed in the past. Sometimes it dies down a bit for a while, but still remains a little red (promising reoccurence). I thought once our packages arrived I'd be able to douse my finger with the steroid cream I packed and all would be well. Unfortunately, I packed expired cream...and since I've used it, my finger has had its own volcano eruption (I've checked at the local pharmacy for a replacement and they didn't have the same cream---I'm working through an "allergy cream" made in Honduras at the moment). Why do I share this with you? Well, other than a bit of pity, I'm seeking itch therapies. Got any suggestions? I'm open for trying anything....I mean anything (short of chopping my finger off).

Yes... you need to see a doctor! It looks like it may be getting infected.
Ok, Mom...:) It's definitely inflamed. I'll see about a doctor this week. We'll see how far I get. Chad's coming next week--maybe he can bring me some goodies from the States...
disgusting!
hair dryers seem to work good. Megan's mom and sister are extremely allergic to poison ivy and their doctor told them to use a blow dryer to "itch" the rash. the heat releases the antihistamines, which makes it feel like you're scratching the itch yet there is no physical contact to inflame the skin (avoiding spreading the rash). don't know if it's true, but it worked for them and gave them some relief.
Try soaking it in hot salty water for 15 minutes twice a day. The water should be as hot as you can tolerate (not burning, obviously). And add about 1 tsp. salt to a cup of water. It will sting, but that's good, as it is killing the infection. Then dry it thoroughly and cover it with fresh aloe. Surely you have aloe plants down there. Break off a leaf and squeeze the liquid stuff on. Hope that helps.
yikes! i don't have any suggestions for the itch, but if i were there I would rub your head for you :-)
Elisa- I'm so sorry! That just looks painful! Something that has helped me a lot for itching before is Vicks Vaporrub. I know that sounds really odd, but it recently helped me through a severe time of itching in which I could have sworn I had chicken pox all over again! :)
I am so sorry that you don't have the right medicine for this right now! Praying for you!
