An Anniversary Moment

Today is a special day. September 28th marks the end of our second month in Honduras (feels like years). Hooray!

It also marks 3 months since Mel Zelaya took a forced vacation from office. Hooray!

To commemorate our special day, Mel has called for a renewed 'insurrection' and massive 'peace marches' in protest of the de facto government. Only in the mind of a (thankfully failed) dictator could the words 'insurrection' and 'peace march' go hand in hand...

Incidentally, in some sense, Elisa and I owe a debt of gratitude to Zelaya. He made it known that our school would NOT be a target for this peaceful insurrection...his granddaughter goes to school here. Gracias, Senor.

Three cheers for September 28th!

Hello loves,

We miss you much and think of you often. We pray for your safety and for you to be useful instruments of peace and faith in Honduras during what appears to be peaceless and faithless times. okay, so peaceless isn't a word but it sounded better that way.

There was an AP article in our local paper today re. the political situation in Honduras. The facts concurred with yours, but the "spin" in this article urged the reader to think poorly of the current government for putting "unconstitutional restrictions" on the populace during this time. And it suggested that Zelaya should have been allowed to serve out his term.

Not surprising...These restrictions are keeping some peace among the ones disturbing it in the name of Zelaya. And unfortunately the protests kept our sweet Spanish tutor from teaching us today. Bummer.
